Hoppy The Grasshopper

Howdy!  My name is Hoppy The Grasshopper.  I am a Cachekinz trackable grasshopper.  I usually spend most of my time eating and hoppping around fields of crops and grass, but I'm looking for more adventure in my life.  There is a huge world out there that I am excited to explore.  My mission is to travel the world, visiting as many different locations and caches as I can....please help me along with my journey.  I really like my freedom, so please do not keep me.

Here is a little bit of information about my species...

Grasshoppers are insects that can hop, walk and fly.  There are about 10,000 different species of grasshoppers.  Most grasshoppers are green, brown, or olive-green. The biggest ones are about 4.5 inches (11.5 cm) long.  Females are normally larger than males.

Like all insects, grasshoppers have a three-part body (head, thorax and abdomen), six jointed legs, two pairs of wings, and two antennae. Their body is covered with a hard exoskeleton. Grasshoppers breathe through a series of holes called spiracles; they are located along the sides of the body. They also have pinchers or mandibles that cut and tear off food.  Their long hind legs are used for hopping. The short front legs are used to hold prey and to walk.  Some species of grasshopper make easily heard noises by rubbing their back legs together or snapping their wings in flight.

Grasshoppers are herbivores that prefer to eat grasses, leaves and cereal crops. Their predators include birds, beetles, rodents, reptiles, and spiders.

Some species of grasshopper occur in very large numbers and cause serious crop damage and loss of plants in pastures.

In certain countries (Mexico, China, many African countries), grasshoppers are eaten as a good source of protein.
