I did some unwanted bushwhacking here to finally get to the trail. It took some time for the GPS to settle down before I found a trail. Near ground zero a doe watched me intently while I looked for the cache. When I finally found it I was surprised that the coordinates I was reading were right on the money. So I signed in and left the cache exactly where I found it.

When we arrived there was a yard sale happening across the street, and it was quite busy. But everyone seemed to be busy doing their own thing, and not paying any attention to us.
I spotted the cache right away, but wow! I used to be "quite tall" but not that tall! I opened the trunk and found one tool that could get it down easy enough, but not so sure about putting it back up.
So I went over and easily retrieved the cache, and we signed the log. Now for the hard part. After four or five attempts that all failed, ironically two ComEd trucks turned into the street and slowly drove right by us... to the next pole down. Phew!
Instead of going across the street to see if they were selling any TOTTs that might work, I tried one more time, carefully wedging the cache on our tool as best I could, then very slowwwly raising it up...….. almost there...….. click. Got it!
We quickly got in the car and hightailed it out of there! Favorite point for the adventure.

  • "let's hightail it out of here!"

Walking from the 3rd Ward on our way to the lake, we stopped here for a short rest. Thanks for the quick cache and the history lesson.

After a family wedding yesterday, six of us took a walk along the river in the Historic 3rd Ward. The final coordinates were calculated from the signs, and they brought us to a likely host. I got down and searched, but DNF. Then my son came to my aid and came up with the cache in seconds! Thanks for the cache and the history lesson.

I was looking forward to this cache. The place was deserted. We had the privacy I hoped for and expected. We came prepared, and I had the log sheet in hand quickly. When I got down a man appeared and wanted to know what we were doing. I told him and he was intrigued by it, and wanted to look up the website , but said he still was going to take down the cache because we were on private property. He said his dad, the minister of the church in the big building would not like it. He told us he was the one who cut it down before. I hope you can find another spot you can place this, it's a great cache.

  • I can get this... I know I can
  • ...no problem! (but we weren't out of the woods yet)

Found it, but had trouble retrieving it. There was something wrong with the "wiring". it was hooked on something. I had to do something, the coordinates to the final were in there. I finally was able to free it from the host, without breaking the container. I put a large piece of bark into the hollow, and put the cache in to rest on it, so it wouldn't fall out of reach. This was a good one, now it's off to the final cache!

I made it halfway through! I think this was the scariest one. But instead of stopping I found myself heading for #7. But the bushwhacking continued getting worse with each cache, and I fell down a few times. I was also getting farther away from my car. I wisely turned around and got out of the woods as soon as I could, and took the road back to the car. Tomorrow is another day, I hope I have as much fun as I did today.

Found it, but had a heck of a time retrieving it. I don't think it was wired right. It was stuck to the bottom. With a little blood and tears I was able to remove it enough to open it and get what I wanted. So that nobody has as much trouble, I had to deposit a piece of bark and put the container in upside down. The sole of one of my shoes was coming apart, and I strongly considered calling it a day. But I found myself heading for #6 instead.
