  This peg wants to travel to other areas around the country to areas with other old barns. Pictures would be appreciated.

About This Item

 I timber frame for a living. This involves both building new timber frame structures and restoring old ones. This peg came out of a barn  I restored in Rockbridge county, Virginia. The barn was originally built sometime time between 1870 and 1900. I used wood species, joinery typology, and milling characteristics to date this barn. Unfortunately, these old barns are quickly disappearing from the American landscape.

  As you travel around, look around at the old agricultural buildings that dot the landscape. They are a cultural treasure found nowhere else.

    This is our first travel bug....hoping we don't mess it up! We are planning to take it up the river tomorrow to the Turkey Hill trail geocache. Tons of great barns (especially tomato barns!!) in that area.

    Traded this out of Homewood Nature Preserve. My son and I were helping clean out the nearby barn as a scout's Eagle project.
