Dropped Off 7/21/2017 Wombatwandering placed it in Hvalnesviti Iceland - 22.59 miles  Visit Log

Goodbye A Hole In Many Ones. It's time to see you free. The sea at this lighthouse was pretty wild today. Very windy and we had a few arctic terns diving us but even they were having trouble in the wind. Good luck with your further travels! 🌊

Visited 7/21/2017 Wombatwandering took it to EDEs lighthouse XVIII - Hvanney (Höfn) Iceland - 135.29 miles  Visit Log

Next you stopped at Höfn and walked the scale model of the solar system. Had a late lunch of local lobster. 🍤

Visited 7/20/2017 Wombatwandering took it to Die Another Day - IFL GeoTrail #3 Iceland - 10.66 miles  Visit Log

Your next visit was to Jökulsárlón Iceberg Lagoon. Geocach_pro and I loved it - Beautiful colours and shapes; playing with the icebergs on the shore or the lake and the sea; and watching them topple over. CuteOtter and MrWombat thought it was ok but nothing super special. Interesting. 💠

Visited 7/20/2017 Wombatwandering took it to Kvíamýrarkambur Iceland - 17.31 miles  Visit Log

You're on the road again. A quick stop for a hike at Kvíamýrarkambur Glacier in south east Iceland. That's a tongue off the giant Vatnajökull Ice cap, the third largest in the world. There are several volcanoes sleeping under it.🗻

  • Kvíamýrarkambur Glacier, Iceland
Visited 7/18/2017 Wombatwandering took it to Skaftafell Shocks Iceland - 74.42 miles  Visit Log

Skaftafell shocks alright. You had to survive weather last night. Our tents stood up to it but it was crazy. It ripped apart the tent next to us and snapped a pole, good name tent too. This morning was much better so we headed up to Skaftafell Glacier and then attempted to climb Kristínartindar but the winds were too strong at the final pass so we just did the loop back to Svartifoss. 🌪

  • Icelandic horses.
Visited 7/18/2017 Wombatwandering took it to Vik Church (Víkurkirkja) Iceland - 20.33 miles  Visit Log

Day 10 After a quick stop in Reykjavik, you've picked up the 4wd geohiremobile and headed back along the south coast. Very windy. Lots of rain. Saw some puffins at Reynisfjara through the gloom. Cute church at Vik but the weather was too bad to dally. 💨

Visited 7/17/2017 Wombatwandering took it to MTs View over Iceland Iceland - 6.34 miles  Visit Log

Day 9 We left Fimmvörðuháls Hut with sunshine and blue sky and followed the more remote red route down to Skógar. Lots of waterfalls and rainbows. It was a shock to see so many people after 7 days hiking. Got soaked under beautiful SkógarFiss then caught the bus back to Reykjavik. 🌈

Visited 7/17/2017 Wombatwandering took it to Magni og Móði Iceland - 8.98 miles  Visit Log

I confess that you did not visit this cache. We carried you out of Þórsmörk and over the notorious Krossa river. We've finished the Laugavegur Trail and are now starting the Fimmvörðurháls Trail to Skogar. Seriously magnificent scenery leaving Þórsmörk. Then it was the steep climb onto the side of Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Soon after, it was a complete white out as well as walking through snow. We had to use the GPS for something other than geocaching! We climbed up Magni and Móði, the new craters on Eyjafjallajökull from the 2010 eruption, but we couldn't see anything. No chance of looking for a cache. We trudged onto Fimmvörðurháls hut for a fun night. Annoyingly, the weather improved later. 🌋

Visited 7/15/2017 Wombatwandering took it to Laugavegur - bridge Iceland - 1.19 miles  Visit Log

Onwards from Emstrur to Þórsmörk. Variable weather day, rain and sun and everything in between. We were joined on route by the runners in the Laugavegur ultra marathon. Annoying that what took us 4 days to walk, took the leader around 4 hours. Maybe in two years if my knees last.....? There is a 10 hr cut off to run the 55 km. We saw quite a few bloody legs. There was the bonus that the river crossings had ropes that walkers could use. Treated ourselves to a sauna, hot pool, shower, and dinner at Volcano Huts, Þórsmörk. There was even wifi. Luxury. 🚿

Visited 7/14/2017 Wombatwandering took it to Markarfljót canyon Iceland - 79.69 miles  Visit Log

Between the last cache and this one, you've left the snow behind and gone through a world of vivid green moss covered hills. This morning was hard. You crossed the black lava sands in pouring rain. The river crossing was high and fast. We felt sorry for the people coming toward us who had the rain in their faces. Made it to Emstrur and pitched the tent. The weather cleared and we headed up to the canyon. What a sight! 💦
