Florida has 6 venomous snakes, and Pennsylvania has 3. The only one in common is the Timber Rattlesnake. This particular rest stop, the home of the "Snake Wall", has many signs warning about the possibility of venomous snakes being present, and it is in the southern range of the timber rattler, so there could be some around. The northern version has been seen on the New Kensington campus of Penn State, around their Nature Trail.

Florida A & M University, or commonly known as FAMU, are the Rattlers. There was one game, in softball, between Penn State and FAMU last year. Penn State won 2-0

    • Looking SE towards larger part of Paynes Prairie Paynes Prairie is a large Florida State Park with I-75 running N-S through the western portion, and 441 running N-S slightly east of there. Many different species of wildlife live there--snakes among them.

We just got done with a road trip to Missouri, so what do we do? Drive to Orlando to pick up a table saw. I told my husband we had to take the time to get at least one cache, and one is all we had time for. This library cache wasn't too far from our destination, and I love library caches :)

Penn State just finished an expansion of the Pattee and Paterno Libraries, called the Collaboration Commons and Central Atrium--what a mouthful! The area around the library looks like it's itching for a geocache ;)

    • We got some readin' to do! Hmm, reading->Reading RR->Pennsylvania RR->had a stop in State College :)

Back in Florida, barely! This cache was at the Welcome Center on I-10 as you enter the state. I also needed this county, and the next one to the east, but it was getting late in the day. I settled for this one--Escambia County--and this cache near the "Blue Angel on a stick".

The plane on display is a Grumman F-9 Cougar. The Blue Angels flew these from Winter 1954/55 to mid-season 1957 according to roadsideamerica.com.

Chief of Naval Air Training Rear Adm. Greg Harris announced Cmdr. Todd Royles as the incoming executive officer of the 2020 Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels. And where did Cmdr. Royles graduate? You guessed it! Penn State!

    Congratulations Cmdr. Royles!

Another quick png on our drive home. I really wanted to stop here though, since we just finished watching "Last Chance U" on Netflix. The first two seasons follow the East Mississippi Community College football team in Scooba, MS.

In the second season, they gave a lot of screen time to Kam Carter. It was actually very frustrating watching his story unfold because he just didn't seem to care about anything. The bad news is he got kicked off the Penn State team. The worse news is after he left the JuCo program, he signed with Pitt ;) He wasn't there very long either, and finally turned his act around with the Duquesne Dukes, also in Pittsburgh.

If you're ever in this area, Scooba itself doesn't seem to have any restaurants other than a Subway, but a little further south down the highway is Meridian, MS and there's this place called Weidmann's that is great!

p.s. I was kicking myself for not pushing while in Missouri, and visiting Independence, KS. Seasons 3 and 4 were following the ICC football team. Would have been funny to go to both places on the trip :)

So this was just a quickie lpc to get the county on our drive home. It was in a Kohl's parking lot. Turns out Kohl's carries Penn State gear.

    :)
