The goal is to see how far away from launch these can go. So if it was traveling West from its launch point, please move it further West from where you found it. (or East, South, North, etc.)
Naturally the "winds" are bound to shift and it won't always travel in the same direction, but please follow the direction in which it started when possible.
When I was in grade school many, many, moons ago, we had an annual event called "Balloon Ascension Day" that I loved very much.
The premise was simple. Each student was given a self-addressed, pre-paid postcard with spaces to fill in their name, grade, and a simple message. Then these cards were tied to a helium balloon and the entire school stood in the playground and released their balloons at the same time.
As the balloons and cards eventually fell to earth, if anyone found them they could drop them in the mail and it would return to the school, where it would be pinned to the bulletin board with a string pointing to where on the map it had been found.
Every day the board was up I would run to check with the excitement of Christmas Day. But not once in the six years (K-5) did my card ever get returned.
Many years later I found Geocaching and the ability to map the movement of trackable items reminded me of those days in school, waiting for a postcard to return.
So now I'm combining these two together and launching ten "balloon" trackable tags to see where they go.
