About This Item

Tibetanische Gebetsmühle

Souvenir from a trip together with YxZd into the highlands of Sichuan in China. Highlights were Jiu Zhai Gou and Huang Long, with the beautiful waters and water terraces between 3500m and 4100m altitude. The high plateau of the Ruo Er Gai grasslands at 3500m are throughoutly inhabited by Tbetians, spending their summer months in tents on the prairies, together with their yak. At the Yellow River, we met a Tibetian monastery. You find the prayer wheels everywhere, in all sizes, sometimes 5m high and 2m wide...

PS: The whole trip into the mountains was into a geocaching-free zone!

[navy]Needs Archived - all gone! At least, that's what I mistakenly marked in my log book. I thought I was after a traditional, and was so disappointed seeing that the whole area had been bulldozered. Even more, I was disappointed realizing that this is a puzzle cache, as I do not have time for such things, and probably would ever solve it! Came out by taxi in a quick action, now I have to walk till I find a real one!

Not so easy to get here, though! After the Forbidden City, meant to be an easy walk out here, as we realized we have to get through the pedestrian tunnels, security checkpoints and so on. A pace with history and special meaning, it seems.

[navy]KoolKath has been here, so now it's my turn! Although she might not log it, as usual! Today, LiLi picked me up, one of the ladies who understands multi dimensional synchrotron X-ray diffraction, to show me around in Beijing. Already yesterday, I had a great visit of the Summer Palace, missed out the caches there in the north... always under supervision of a guide. So, a virtual cache is fine - I told LiLi, there is a waypoint from a kind of online guide which brings me into places the main stream probably wouldn't go to. And LiLi agreed, she has been plenty of times guiding visitors through here, but has never been at GZ. I see, we do crystallography as one of the tools of our profession. Yesterday morning, I visited a crystal growth facility locates at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Today, I am more on quartz, while tomorrow I'll travel to Changchun to give a talk investigating Zirconium crystals, Titanium and others. Well done, TFTCM!

[maroon]Muggles insist! The Arkaroo is tall and has a long nose! I sat down at GZ for a search, when 5 old men passed and kept watching me - starring me! I asked LiLi, what they want - just watch e, because I am so different. After 10 mins, finally we left... Haha, yesterday in the Summer Palace, a whole class of school made me speak Chinese!

[navy]No time to stop, passing only 360m from here - by plane! On my way from Chengdu to Peking - leaving dear YxZd behind. The present definitely is the oldest cache in town, remaining on my to-do list. Nevertheless, YxZd and The Arkaroo started placing the first physical cache a few days ago: First in Chengdu, almost 11 years later! You can be sure we'll be back, but first I go to Beijing, Changchun, Sydney, Munich and Darmstadt, Tokyo and Tokai, Boston, and will spend summertime in Australia! And you, will do First in Chengdu! Let's see, who's getting the other one first!
