About This Item

IMG_1731

Goofy began life in the 1932 cartoon Mickey's Revue, where he was a member of the audience. While he is lovable, he is not always the smartest dog on the block and has laughed his way into our hearts.
Goofy was initially known as Dippy Daw, and it was a 1938 book 'The Story of Dippy the Goof' which actually began the name change to Goofy. This change was not official until 1939 when the cartoon Goofy and Wilbur was released.

Goofy was created to be a dog with human features. For example… he walks upright and does have a speaking voice. Pinto Colvin, who specialized in Goofy's raucous laugh, initially supplied his voice. Later George Johnson, Bob Jackman, Hal Smith, Tony Pope, Will Ryan, and Bill Farmer have all supplied his voice. Bill Farmer began in 1986 and is the current voice actor who plays Goofy.

In the 1990's 'The Goof Troop' was shown on television and introduced Goofy's son Max to audiences. This 'family' replaced the earlier version from the 1950's where Goofy played Mr. Geef who had a wife and son. In 'The Goof Troop' his wife had disappeared and his son was now Max.

Goofy is also quite well known for his "How To….." cartoons, such as "How To Be a Rock Star" and "The Art of Skiing" these cartoons showcased Goofy's laugh and his clumsiness.

We also know Goofy from his feature film 'A Goofy Movie' which starred he and his son Max. "An Extremely Goofy Movie" followed his first feature film. Goofy is also often seen on Disney's House of Mouse.

The lovable Goofy is now very well known for his wild antics at the Disney theme parks, and for his famous restaurant Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Resort.
