Parting ways with "By the Numbers" in Hinckley, MN.
While this cache doesn't have numbers in the name, (though I doubt the TB owner cares all that much now since they haven't been on since 2017,) it's located at The Great Hinckley Fire State Monument.
This monument recognizes the Great Hinckley Fire which took place on 9/1/1894, which resulted in 200,000 acres of land being scorched and temperatures rising to 2,000 °F. The fires burned for only four hours, but still left its mark on Minnesota land and history.
Uncontrolled fires by older logging methods, debris serving as tinder, temperature inversion, and a two month drought were some of the several contributing factors for this tragedy.
The official death count was 418 individuals, though there were probably many others who were unaccounted for. This was the 2nd most deadly fire in Minnesota history, behind the 1918 Cloquet Fire resulting in 453 recorded deaths.
Now, as the owner asked: I've got a handful of favorite numbers, but I think if I had to pick one it'd be 47. No particular reason for it, it just sounds like a nice and crisp number--if that makes any sense, I'm sure I'm probably just crazy.
(And as fellow musical nerd, I also love that the owner's fav is 2460`1.)
