Current Goal

Dam it, Chip!!! is in the race of his life with another travel bug, Fox and Scruggs from the UK.  Each has been released far away from home and has to travel back from cache to cache until they reach their specified home cache.  Dam it, Chip!!! misses his den in Vancouver's Stanley Park, on the coast of British Columbia, Canada.  Keep moving him along until he arrives at "Beaver Surprise" (GCRTA5) on the shores of Stanley Park's Beaver Lake.  Send the owner a message when he arrives so he can bring him a nice piece of wood to gnaw on.

Please try to place him in caches that he will be safe from being muggled and keep him moving towards his home.

Photos of Dam it, Chip's adventures are also much appreciated.

Thanks for all your help!

About This Item

The Race is ON!!!!

Dam it, Chip is not the first beaver to return to the UK.  The Great British beaver, extinct in the UK for 400 years, was re-introduced to Scotland in 2009. Likewise, the Canadian beaver was almost hunted to extinction by the mid-19th century, but luckily Europeans suddenly took a liking to silk hats over ones made from beaver and the demand for beaver pelts all but disappeared.  Saved by conservation and the whims of fashion the beaver was officially made an emblem of Canada in 1975.

Fun Facts about beavers:

  1. They can remain underwater without breathing for up to 15 minutes and swim up to 8 km/h.
  2. They have a third transparent eyelid that helps them see underwater.
  3. When they fall a tree they waste nothing, systematically eating the bark and buds before cutting up branches and sections of the trunk to carry for use in dams or lodges.
  4. As with all rodents, a beaver’s front teeth never stop growing.
  5. beaver's tail is a little like a Swiss Army knife: it is used as a rudder, a third leg while standing upright, as a lever to drag branches and can be slapped on the water to warn other beavers of danger.
