About This Item

King Charles Cavalier

I am a King Charles Cavalier, and was born on July 4, 2009 and my name is Fiji. I joined the Team The Flying Dutchmen as soon as I found out there was no real ghost ship involved and helped them sniff out geocaches in all kinds of locations.

Throughout my puberty I followed the Dutchmen lumbering through the woods in Washington State searching for off-trail caches. It was fun until I got decorated with cedar sticks, sticklers, blackberry vines and what not. As I grew older I realized off-trail is not for me anymore so I have been putting to work my 1000 pound magnetic weight - I have the ability to increase my weight and park my rear-end on the trail with no way to inch it in any direction. As such the Dutchment carry me off trail and put me down in an open area near the cache if caches are off-trail.

Due to my low height my expertise is to follow overgrown trails. The Dutchmen in those cases follow my lead - I see and follow the trail, the Dutchmen only sees a sea of ferns, trusting me all the way, with one eye on his GPS, the other kind of on me.

Moving down to California in 2015 was fun although I picked up some travel bugs along the way at a rest stop. Not the kind of travel bugs you find in caches, no, the ticks kind. I picked up about a dozen in 30 minutes. Luckily we noticed them early so we dropped most of them along the way.

Now I am geocaching in Southern California. It's much hotter and dustier here than in Seattle. I do like the urban caches a lot, there is a lot to sniff out everywhere. Would like to visit state parks but they don't like us K-9's there. The dog beaches are fun though. I love going to geocaching events so I can meet other geo-dogs.

King Charles attended his last event on September 17, 2022, which was the GC9Y7H9 Kalifornia Koastal Koffie event. He enjoyed every minute of it, and the attention a little kid gave him.

King Charles passed on 9/29/2022 at 13+ years old. He has been a great geocaching partner, made friends with so many cachers along the way. He died of old age and heart issues which are common in his breed. He was a fantastic dog, and was The Flying Dutchmen's shadow all this time.

King Charles hid his first cache on June 4, 2016: GC6HHX5 - King Charles Loves Huntington Beach Dog Park!. Come check it out!
