This 1996 BMW Z3 1.9L convertible is Gary's little project car. When my older sister fell on hard times, we found ourselves dragging this little basket case home from California. The engine was in pieces and in the trunk and passenger compartment. The windows were shattered and also in the passenger compartment. The convertible top back window was missing and the entire car, inside and out, had a thick layer of dirt on it. Almost forgot the flat tires, broken mirror, dead battery, missing stereo face plate, broken antenna, broken fog lamp, broken marker lamp, etc.... About the only good  thing this BMW had going for it was the body, until we hit a snow drift a couple miles from home and tore the front bumper off.
With a lot of TLC Gary almost has her back to good. Knowing nothing about imports, he purchased a used engine and hoped for the best. Once he had the engine in and running, I think this is when the love affair began. Honestly, he was not thrilled about it in the beginning and it sat collecting more dust for over a year.
Rather than purchasing a vehicle that got better mileage, I talked him into getting this little four cylinder back on the road. The only problem is, now he is talking paint and I can see gravel roads are going to be an issue with him and his new girlfriend. Well, as far as I am concerned it is the GEO Z3 and during the nice months of the year, we are going geocaching in it!
