Current Goal

To help ScouterDuck find and hide caches that are on, along, or under water, or on islands. Along the way, to be steadfast and stable, and always make it back to safe harbor.

About This Item

It's not just my geocaching handle and avatar, but I name all my boats for ducks, wild North American types specifically.  This includes the recreational kayaks I use on small quiet waterways, some of which contain geocaches. For almost 20 years, a red Perception Xplorist named Merganser plied the waters of New York, Ohio, Michigan, and beyond with me.  At the end of 2023, I donated Merganser to a Scout troop.  Now a slate-blue Hobie Passport named Scoter will fill that role.  Fair winds and following seas!

The coin itself will reside in my (ScouterDuck's) collection, but will be permenantly associated with my kayaks, either Merganser or Scoter. I will log the coin in and out from all caches found or hidden using these "Geo-Yaks." I will also offer the opportunity to discover to other cachers I meet along the trails and/or waterways.

Similar to the one before, this was the Saturday overnight stop on the Lake-to-Lake trek. While Merganser lay upside-down quietly on the beach, I slept in my tent mere feet from this cache.

Retrieve It from a Cache 8/26/2006 ScouterDuck retrieved it from Remembering a Friend New York   Visit Log

This location turned out to be a rest stop during the Troop 750 Lake-to-Lake Trek. Not technically a find, since I had been here before via car, but worth noting. Merganser was here!

Retrieve It from a Cache 7/4/2006 ScouterDuck retrieved it from The Driftwood Series New York   Visit Log

Like I said, the area needed boaters' caches. This one took some work to set up and get approved, but well worth it. Merganser took a beating while hiding the north marker, but now she is repsonsible for three of my six active hides!

Retrieve It from a Cache 5/27/2006 ScouterDuck retrieved it from A Duck Nest To Paddle Toward New York   Visit Log

I felt the area needed a few boater's caches and now Brother-in-Law Challenge is archived. So today I cleaned up the remain of BILC and hid this cache and its partner. Merganser now has her first hide!

Chose to take the water route to this cache, so Merganser gets her second find!
