4/29/04…Changuita here (431302). Sorry not to write sooner, but I’ve been busy. Found myself at Polo”s Golf Cart Rentals on Temptation Island for a while, which was great! Got to ride golf carts all over San Pedro for free. I’ll try to send along a photo of me, with the second longest barrier reef in the world behind me.
Found myself in a basket at Coconet Internet Café long enough to send out a brief message…hope you got it.
Hitched a ride to Philadelphia to see the cherry blossoms, the first week of April. What a surprise! Record cold; 35 mph winds, snow, Independence Hall, Liberty Bell…then off to Amish country: America’s oldest pretzel factory, chocolate factories galore, horse-drawn carts in blizzard conditions.
Thank goodness I woke up in Habana, Cuba! Muy Amable! Seemed like everyone had a college degree. Brushed up on my Spanish, and soaked up the ubiquitous art, architecture, and music, with my generous Cuban hosts. Dropped over to Santiago de Cuba, where I saw the oldest house in Cuba, San Juan Hill, beautiful sunsets, and the beating heart of the Cuban revolution, all to the constant beat of Afro-Cubano street music.
Next stop was Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Much nicer than Cancun, but still no sign of Changoboy. I’m hanging out on Avenida Quinta now, but suspect I’ll soon be brushing up on my German and Italian…
