About This Item

The GPS Bug

The GPS travel bug has a short and tragic history. After 12 years of flying and 24 years of hiking I had never owned a GPS. Then my sister told me about geocaching.

The next week I bought a Camo GPS on ebay for $85, and after receiving it took my two kids to find three caches in an afternoon; they loved it.

OK, so why am I using a GPS for a travel bug? Well I don't think leaving it on the truck rail hurt it, and I don't think it broke when it fell off the truck rail and hit the street, but it clearly wasn't working after a car drove over it.

So why Schwabach, Germany? Schwabach its a great little Bavarian town with a traditional town square and city park. You should see it sometime. I have relatives in the area and hope to visit them shortly after the bug arrives. PLease keep the GPS bug in the area of Nurnberg. Vielen dank.

GPS wanted to get off the highway, he had heard people playing in the night and lots of car action going on. It was far too noisy for him and he wanted to go somewhere peaceful so i have taken him for a ride!

I should be able to move it to the other side of the pond fairly soon. I know the area the area to which the bug is heading. That part of Germany is lovely. I was stationed not far from there in a small dorf (Zirndorf) when I was in the Army.

Pretty cool travel bug, Very sad story of it's demise.

I will get it to a cache near the airport, that's the best I can do to help it on it's way.

There was no description of it's goals when I found it so I took it.

Unless directed otherwise, I will put a piece of paper in the battery compartment stating its name and goal. if that isn't what you want, tell me in the next couple of days, and I'll take it out. Hope it makes it. Good Luck.

  • The 'GPS' travel bug
  • The 'Battery' installed
  • The 'Battery' un-rolled In this picture the compression makes it nasty, the actual 'Battery' is very clear.
