Current Goal

I want to take this coin to the many sites that are dedicated to all who were affected on 9-11-01.  We should always remember that ALL GAVE SOME and SOME GAVE ALL.

About This Item

In commemoration of the September 11, 2001 attacks, this coin not only pays tribute to the past events of that day, but also to the future. The front side represents the twin towers as they stood before the attacks; the crash landing of United Airlines Flight 93 near Shanksville, PA; and American Airlines Flight 77 at the Pentagon. Shortly after, Operation Enduring Freedom was established to fight the terrorists. Many people were sacrificed in the 9-11 attacks, and many more sacrificed themselves to rescue the injured and also during Operation Enduring Freedom.

The backside represents the rebuilding of the twin towers' site showing that we will never forget and that we can recover. The police badge and firefighter Maltese cross represent those who survived and that public service to our citizens will continue without pausing. The Statue of Liberty shows that liberty will prevail even in the toughest of times.

Today was our first visit to the fountains at WTC. Visited a couple of names of people that we knew or that friends of ours did. Will visit again once the museum opens.

Since it was 9/11 I wanted to visit a memorial that I had not seen before today. I want to make sure that I log this coin at a special cache on 9/11 each year.

My Godfather was the Fire Chief at this station years ago, so I was very happy to see that this memorial was finally erected. There was some debate as to whether the WTC steel would be placed here or across the street at the park. I am glad to see it wound up here on the grounds.
