The polar bear is a carnivorous bear native largely within the Arctic Circle encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. They are among the largest carnivores in the world, rivaled only by the Kodiak brown bears of southern Alaska.It is the only bear that is considered a marine mammal because it depends upon the marine environment for survival. Canada is one of five "polar bear nations," along with the United States (Alaska), Russia, Denmark (Greenland) and Norway.
