About This Item

Vasco (proxy 2)

I love finding trackables in caches.  So, it has become my habit to launch ten new trackables into the wild each spring.  In 2009, I launched ten gold ingots each heading to a different college.  In 2010, I launched ten little turtles to visit each county in Oregon.  In 2011, I launched ten unicorns each heading to one of the world’s most romantic cities.

In 2012, I am launching ten compass roses to visit each continent of the world.  They are each named for a famous explorer: (1) Christopher Columbus, (2) Ferdinand Magellan, (3) Hernan Cortez, (4) Jacques Cousteau, (5) James Cook, (6) Leif Ericson, (7) Marco Polo, (8) Meriwether Lewis, (9) Neil Armstrong and (10) Vasco De Gamma.

Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer, one of the most successful in the Age of Discovery and the commander of the first ships to sail directly from Europe to India.  His route took him around the southern tip of Africa.
