Bitte hilf dabei, sie in GC1DR1G  "A Triumph Of Engineering" zu platzieren.
Dort wünsche ich mir, dass der Owner dieses mir kostbare Stück an das National Motorcycle Museum Birmingham übergibt

Vielen Dank!

Please bring this original and more than 40 years old Triumph Patent Plate back to the place where it was assembled to one of the legendary Triumph Motorcycles in the old but meanwhile destroyed Triumph plant in Meriden, West Midlands, United Kingdom. Pleasehelp to place it to GC1DR1G  "A Triumph Of Engineering"

If the item arrives there I bed the cache owner to bring this my beloved patent plate and hand it out to the National Motorcycle Museum Birmingham

Thank you very much!

About This Item

Triumph Patent Plate

This patent plate was one of the characteristic signs or the great motorcycle producer Triumph Motorcycles from Coventry, After the bombs destroyed the original factory there grew a new plant in Meriden, in which a T100 was built. From this T100 I removed the patent plate in 1999 to replace it with a NOS part when I restored this motorcycle´.
This motorcycles was delivered to South Africa in 1969 and came to Germany in 1992,
In the meantime this old Triumph visited the place where the Triumph pland stood one time.

This Travel Bug reached its final destination today, the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham.

I was very unsure what kind of reception I would receive when I turned up and tried to explain all about Geocaching and the goal of this Travel Bug. I needn't have worried. The person I met was most receptive, listened carefully to my explanations, studied the print-outs of the map and TB page and assured me that it would be well looked after and maybe even displayed one day. There are plans to expand this museum and aspirations to use some of the many interesting and historic items currently in storage.

Having received such a warm welcome I was able to take the TB on its own tour of the museum and photograph some of the many Triumph motorcycles on display. The place is a real gem and a must-see for any enthusiast.

So the TB owner can rest assured that the goal was achieved and the TB will spend this winter in warm rather than in a cold plastic container under a hedge somewhere!

The travel bug went with me to the London Road Cemetary in Coventry today to visit the Triumph memorial. This memorial is dedicated to those sixty six Triumph workers who lost their lives in the World War I.
It was unveiled in March 1921 German-born Siegfried Bettmann, who had founded the company some twenty-five years earlier. Siegfried Bettmann was somewhat shabberly treated during the war. At the time war broke out he was Mayor of Coventry but was rapidly demoted becasue of concerns over his nationality. The fact that Bettmann commissioned this memorial speaks of his forgivness to the way he had been treated.

The TB has now achieved its goal, arrived in Meriden and been taken on quite a tour by Mr Wizz.

A friend of mine is a member of the Triumph Owner's Club that meets in Meriden and kindly took some photos of the TB next to his Triumph. Well, I say Triumph. It has a T100 engine, an Ariel frame and a BSA Chain base. Its certainly been put together by one clever engineer!

GOAL COMPLETE!!!!

I had been watching this travel bug since it's release, after Superted (the cache owner of the travel bug's goal) had announced on Facebook that the bug wanted to go to his cache. Wouldn't it be great, I thought, if I could help it reach its destination?

So when it reached the area about a few weeks ago, I raced over to collect it. Then it was simply a matter of bringing it here...

OK, so I didn't bring it directly here - I thought a couple side trips to other Triumph-related locations were in order first!

Anyway, the travel bug has now finally made it, and here is the picture proof. Enjoy!

Before it heads over to the Triumph works in Meriden, I thought a quick visit to the old Triumph Works at Canley was in order. The fact that I had to order some parts from my Citroen at the garage there (which is now sat on the land that the works used to occupy is entirely co-incidental LOL!)

There isn't a lot left of the old works there now. The Triumph Social Club is the only original building that remains there now. The rest were knocked down back in the nineties and replaced with more modern businesses. Aside from the Social Club, the only things that show that Triumph were ever there is the name of the road Herald Ave, and a large stainless steel logo.
