Apnäve - A Monkey's fist

Apans knytnäve ibland även kallad Apnäve är en knop som oftast används för att avsluta en tamp. Knopen är rund och har ett hålrum i mitten. Om hålrummet fylls med en tyngd som till exempel en liten sten får man en utmärkt kastlina. Knopen kallas därför ibland även för kastlineknop eller livlineknop. Om man i stället knyter apnäven runt en bit kork går den att använda som flöte.

Eng: A monkey's fist or monkey paw is a type of knot, so named because it looks somewhat like a small bunched fist/paw. It is tied at the end of a rope to serve as a weight, making it easier to throw, and also as an ornamental knot. This type of weighted rope can be used as a hand-to-hand weapon, called a slungshot by sailors.
