O CHIPMUNK MK20 é um avião bi-lugar em tandem, metálico, com trem fixo e travões hidráulicos de disco, dotados de duplo comando.
Foi utilizado pela FAP para instrução elementar de pilotagem podendo, pelas suas caraterísticas de voo fazer toda a acrobacia e, em boas condições meteorológicas, voo noturno e por instrumentos.
Das cerca de 30 unidades que a Força Aérea dispunha e devido ao seu efetivo, foram selecionadas 7 unidades que, com vista à execução de missões de reboque de planadores da AFA, foram submetidas a várias modificações.
As modificações introduzidas constam de remotorização mais potente (145 HP para 180 HP); novo bloco de travões; novo rádio; transponder; derivas anti-vrille e pintura original da instrução na Força Aérea, com inscrição e emblema da Academia da Força Aérea.
The CHIPMUNK MK20 is a two-seat airplane in tandem, of metallic construction, fixed train and hydraulic disc brakes, fitted with dual controls.
She was used by the Portuguese Air Force to elementary pilot training, due to its flight characteristics it is capable of all the aerobatics and, in good weather, night flying and instrument.
From the 30 units that the Air Force had and due to its effective only 7 aircraft were selected for the Portuguese Air Force Academy. These aircraft were upgraded to be able to perform glider towing missions and others.
The modifications consisted in a new engine (145 HP to 180 HP); new block of brakes; new radio; transponder; anti-drift and vrille starks; original painting used in instruction aircraft of this Air Force, with inscription and emblem of the Portuguese Air Force Academy.
