This Blue Ensign (ignore the terrible spelling on the TB!) is launched from The Royal Hospital School to travel to as many naval sites as possible in honour of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the school!
Also keen to go further than its two siblings: "British Army - Royal Artillery on exercise" and "RAF cap-badge - 84 Sqn" !
Blue Ensign with the Royal Hospital School ribbon from a naval cap (or "gidge" in RHS slang!).
The Royal Hospital School in Holbrook, nr Ipswich, Suffolk was founded 300 years ago this year in Greenwich, London, and moved to Suffolk in 1933. This TB is attached to the school ribbon from the hat (known in school slang as a "gidge") worn for ceremonial occasions like Divisions when the whole school parades in naval uniform. Until 1944 all pupils (then just boys) joined the Royal or Merchant Navies on leaving.
The school is independent now, but still has many pupils on naval bursaries and maintains many naval traditions.
