Wow! Now here is a coin that has some real history. Good to see that it is still travelling. I'll have to find a special place to drop this one off.
For the benefit of those who may be newer to the sport, here is a little background to the creation of this coin.
This was back in 2005 when geocoins were new and few. There were a several personal coins that had been made but Groundspeak had just begun to issue tracking numbers. People were fanatics about getting one or more of each and every new issue (which was easy in the sense that there weren't that many coins issued but hard in that any given issue consisted of a few hundred coins and there were more than a few hundred people that wanted them.) In those days, people didn't just collect some geocoins. They collected ALL geocoins. Issues were announced in the forums and people would stay up to the wee hours of the morning when [inevitably] the coin would go on sale. Issues would sell out in a matter of minutes. People would get really bent of out of shape if they missed out. There was a lot of accusations of unfairness (not that anyone ever said that things had to be fair), feelings were hurt, and so on. After the initial sale, coins would go on sale in online auctions and go for outrageous prices (which made some people even more upset.) Taken in the context of today where you can't swing a cat without hitting a geocoin, geotag, geopatch, geoshirt, etc., it sounds crazy. And it was...
In the midst of the madness, there was a group (some of whom were acquaintances of mine) who announced "This is insane. Screw Geocoins!" But being coin fanatics themselves, their way of doing this was, of course, to create a Geoscrew coin. This was a screw shaped coin with "Screw geocoins! Let's go find some caches." on one side and "Of course, it's trackable, because it's all about the icons!" on the other.
It was, of course, a success and in the aftermath, someone realized that the screw needed a nut. And thus a GeoNut coin to celebrate all the geo-nuts out there was born. The creators decided that it had be sized to be able to fit over the geoscrew. Examples of the geoscrew and geonut are shown in the photo that I am attaching to this log.
