Current Goal

This Explorer needs to visit a cache close to Mactan Island in the Philippines.  Mactan Island is right next to the Cebu city.  This explorer should go to Mactan Island because that is the death place of Ferdinand Magellan. He died fighting with a local tribe to give the crew time to get to the ship.  Once it gets to Mactan Island the exploerer is free to roam the world at will.

Please take and post pictures of the places this trackable visits duing its travels.

About This Item

Ferdinand Magellan was an early European explorer that went on to achieve many great feats in his career. He was born in 1480 in Sabrosa, Portugal. He grew up happily for awhile, then his parents died unexpectedly in 1490, when he was 10 years old. Luckily, his parents had connections with some of the Portuguese royalty, so he became a page for the Queen of Portugal. Since he worked for royalty, he had the chance to become educated, he was extremely interested in exploration and seafaring.

Magellan took of on his first voyage in 1505 when Portugal sent him to India to help someone gain power there. While he was there he experienced his first battle in 1509. The battle was an effect of a local king trying to rebel against the new chosen king. After this, Magellan left, and he was accused of illegally trading with the Moors, because of that no one would hire him, so he left Portugal in 1514 for good.

Later in his life, Magellan followed in Christopher Columbus’ footsteps. He decided to go around the world on a voyage, this time he wanted to change a few things. The changes he decided to make worked. He eventually got all the way around the world. When he got to the block of Continents in the middle, he found an extremely dangerous strait and went right through it. then continued his journey. He made many stops along the way. They encountered in many skirmishes along their way. A lot of the crew died, including Magellan himself. Years later, they arrived in India with less then 20 men after starting with almost 350. Magellan was a very interesting explorer who gave his life for the love of exploring.
