Current Goal

To visit many War Memorials in the UK, in honour of those thousands that lost their lives in The Great War 1914-1918

About This Item

In Flanders Fields

2014 is the year that will mark 100 years since the outbreak of The Great War.

I send this away in memory of my Great Uncle Frederic Bull, who served with the Wiltshire Regiment during WW1. He was Killed in Action on 25th September 1915, aged 22, during the Battle of Hooge and Bellewaarde near Ypres in Belgium. His body was never recovered and lies In a Flanders Field. In April this Year we made a Family visit to The Menin Gate to pay our respects and see his name there with so many others inscribed on the memorial. His name is also on the War memorial in the village of Derry Hill in Wiltshire - the village where I grew up and members of my family still live. There is also a memorial to Fred on his brother's gravestone in the local churchyard in Derry Hill.

Many thousands of Men/Boys also lost their lives in horrendous circumstances, most bodies were never recovered, this is in their memory too. All that remains is a name on a War memorial in a town or village.

I would love it if this were to make it to the War memorial in Derry Hill, whilst visiting others en route.

Sorry für den späten Log aber durch einen Logstau hinke ich mit meinen Logs hoffnungslos hinterher.
