CACHEPAL AND MISS MARILYN -- REUNITED AT LAST!! (See 3/17 note below for details.)
After a few weeks of rest at home, she'll be on her way again -- starting in Hollywood!

1. MARILYN'S IMMEDIATE GOAL: GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE IN HOLLYWOOD - right on Hollywood Boulevard.
(A) Take photo of Miss Marilyn next to her own foot-&-handprints made 50 years ago - to promote her first smash hit, 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (1953). Note that she shared the session with her co-star, Jane Russell.
(B) Take a photo next to Clark Gable's prints. He was her first screen idol, and co-starred in her last film, 'The Misfits'(1961).

2. MARILYN'S SECOND GOAL: BANFF SPRINGS HOTEL AND THE BOW RIVER, ALBERTA, CANADA!! In 1953, Joe DiMaggio proposed to Marilyn at the Banff Springs Hotel, while she was there filming "River of No Return," co-starring Robert Mitchum, directed by Otto Preminger. So we need a picture of Marilyn at that hotel. THEN she needs to 'return' to the BOW RIVER, which flows through Banff National Park -- this IS the "River of No Return," where she actually broke her foot during the shoot! There was some heavy rafting on the river, so if you want to pose her in a raft.... but I'll settle for a shot of her with the river in the background.

Thanks.

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION (2003):

Miss Marilyn's been stuck in L.A. for 41 years.
Flat on her back.
Now she'd like a change of scenery, and she's ready to travel! She hasn't lost her beauty, and is all set for some photo shoots!
As you see, she's got a dog-tag and a driver's license (or a reasonable facsimile thereof!)
She wants to visit a few places that have meaning for her.

ITINERARY:
Please take a snapshot of Miss Marilyn in front of:
1. THE ACTOR'S STUDIO -
432 West 44th Street
New York City
(where she was first taken seriously as an actress)

2. YANKEE STADIUM -
River & E. 161st Street
Bronx, New York
(Home base of her one true love, Joltin' Joe DiMaggio)

3. NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -
(to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of 'Niagara' - one of her first big hits - in 1953)

4. Then it's back to Tinsel Town for a two-shot session at GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE on Hollywood Boulevard.
(A) Take photo of Miss Marilyn next to her own foot-&-handprints made 50 years ago - to promote her first smash hit, 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (1953). Note that she shared the session with her co-star, Jane Russell.
(B) Take photo next to Clark Gable's prints. He was her first screen idol, and co-starred in her last film, 'The Misfits'(1961).

Once these destinations have been reached, we'll update Miss Marilyn's Itinerary.

Please take good care of Miss Marilyn -- I'm really going to miss her.

Finally got Marilyn back down this way. This area is full of micros!

Anyway, I've got pics of her at SF City Hall. I'll post those soon. She also made it to the GG Bridge, but no pics.

Thanks very much, spunky and chopperdude, for retrieving Marilyn from the Travel Bug Hotel.
Let me ask this: will you be bringing her back to the West Coast after your trip to New York?
My point is: three years ago, I released her near the Rose Bowl. Almost immediately, she went to the East Coast, and has travelled from New England to Florida. While in New York, she attained all of her goals.
So I was hoping she'd stay here in California for a while. She's done San Diego, and is now in San Francisco, where I wanted two specific photos taken. Then I wanted her to come to LA so I could retrieve her & see how she's doing - and take her to Grauman's Chinese Theatre, where she could see her own footprints!
Therefore, if you could either leave her here, or bring her back with you, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks very much.

Hi, CaptainMark & SassySue --

What a fun excursion that was! Thanks very much for Driving Miss Marilyn to Niles for a most unexpected adventure in film history and Americana. The photos are simply fascinating.

Thanks also for putting her into a cache that will surely keep her on the move! If anyone out there can take just 2 photos in San Francisco before sending her back to L.A., I'll be most appreciative. Here are the details:
1. Have her photo taken with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. Proof positive of her San Francisco adventure!
2. Have her picture taken in front of San Francisco's City Hall, scene of her wedding to Joe DiMaggio on January 14, 1954. True, the marriage lasted just 274 days (!!) - but I think Joe was her one true love, and this would be a terrific addition to the Miss Marilyn Photo Gallery.

Thanks again - for San Diego and for Niles. You've been great!

Hi, CaptainMark&SassySue --
What a pleasant surprise! My intention was to have Marilyn return to LA, for photos at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. But now I see you're giving her a fabulous detour to the Bay area. This is great! LA can wait!
May I request just 2 photographs?
Thanks again for giving Marilyn this most unexpected trip down Memory Lane.

We will be moving her along through the SF bay area. I think there may be a really big following up here, and of course we are big fans too.

SHE MADE IT!! And you did it! Thank you, thank you, gojoey&Bookworm1, for bringing Marilyn back to Southern California, and for her San Diego adventure. Sorry you found the hotel museum closed, but that fabulous photograph is proof positive that she returned to the scene of "Some Like It Hot" (1958-'59). Just think - you took her back to the Hotel Del Coronado for the first time in 48 years!
And now, she's got her sights set on her hometown, L.A., and Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
Thanks again for giving Marilyn real movie star treatment!

On Thursday 25 May Bookworm went to the Hotel Del Coronado to let Marilyn see where she once made the movie "Some Like it Hot" It was ONLY $10.00 to park for two hours. after walking around the hotel she found that the museum dedicated to the history of the hotel which included memorabilia of Marilyn and her movie WAS CLOSED (BUMMER). So she went back outside and found an appropriate place to take a picture. And she also found the gift shop and left some green souviniers in exchange for some trinkets. Thank you so much for having me come here. The next day she went to Old Town and put Marilyn in "View of Margaritaville Cache." Thanks to her daughter and granddaughter who helped find the cache.

  • Marilyn at the Hotel Del Coronado Having a great time wish you were here....................
