Current Goal

Smiles really wants to go back home (to St. Croix, USVI). While he's in the States, he'd like his picture taken in front of some famous landmarks so he can share them with his family.

Feel free to drop off some small items in Smiles' "backpack" so he won't get bored during his travels.

About This Item


Smiles comes from St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands.


He came to the US as a stow-away on a cruise ship in 2001.

Smiles planned on traveling around the country and visiting the famous sites, but after 9/11, he's afraid of traveling alone (he thinks he looks like a terrorist). Now, two years later, he'd really like to make his way back home.

Smiles the Dog had a great time visiting Minneapolis. Here are some photos that prove Smiles was having fun. He also stopped at Mall of America and picked up a souvenir keychain. Now he's off to a new adventure.

We met Smiles the Dog while biking along the scenic Root river trail in southern Minnesota. We decided to take him along up to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) for some site seeing. The dog is all smiles!

Smiles has made a new friend with Snowflake, an American Eskimo (and a real) dog. Smiles will be traveling to Iowa, and on the way will be visiting some famous landmarks. Smiles will send pictures when he arrives in Iowa.

We aren't sure he will be visiting any historical sites while he is with us but we will treat him well and he can hang out with Jaz, the geocache dog, that owns us. She will try to keep him in line. However, we have already heard him say to Jaz, "I'm a college graduate you big goof. I don't need mothering."

So by the time we get him up to the event in Alpena next week he will be ready to escape.

  • Clinton Twp Historic Village This is the original Township Hall in Clinton Twp, MI.
It has been relocated to the Civic Center from it's original site on Moravian Rd, in the former Village of Fredrick, MI. Smiles is on the light right of the door.
  • Plaque This plaque in in front of the old township hall.
  • Log Cabin Smiles at the log cabin (c.1850) which has been relocated to the Clinton Twp Civic Center.
Smiles is on the plaque next to the door.
