Current Goal

Smiles really wants to go back home (to St. Croix, USVI). While he's in the States, he'd like his picture taken in front of some famous landmarks so he can share them with his family.

Feel free to drop off some small items in Smiles' "backpack" so he won't get bored during his travels.

About This Item


Smiles comes from St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands.


He came to the US as a stow-away on a cruise ship in 2001.

Smiles planned on traveling around the country and visiting the famous sites, but after 9/11, he's afraid of traveling alone (he thinks he looks like a terrorist). Now, two years later, he'd really like to make his way back home.

I have Smiles the Dog. I dropped off Brett Culpepper and picked up this traveling companion. He is on his way with me to Cumming, Iowa. He will get to see sights along the way and we will try to upload them when we get there. He looks pretty happy about the trip!

I am so sorry that I have not gotten back to you with Smiles adventures. The first photo is when I met your friend at Lake Ann in Arkansas. By the
time I got to the cache and got back it was getting late and so the sun was
setting. That is him on the hood of my car.

He really liked that as you can tell by the look on his face.

the trees just hanging out looking around. Again, by the look on his face I think he really liked it
  • Smiles and his hatchet You will see that he has with him a little hatchet. I know that you were
concerned about his safety and so we made sure that it was in his backpack
just in case. He also has a Bella Vista golf pencil in case he needs to
write a note and a Don's Stateline golf ball marker....well, you never know when he might need it.
  • Smiles at Top of the Hill Cache The final photo is him with the cache at "Top of the Hill..." in Des
Moines right by the Science Center. It was a great cache and it was nice and clean and dry and as you can tell from the photos there was a bunch of great things to keep him busy while he was waiting for new friends to play with. He was especially fond of the little yellow guy. They really seemed to hit it off right away.
