Current Goal

In the year of the 20th Anniversary of the Challenger tragedy, I am launching a Travel Bug memorial to the crew. To honor these seven explorers, I would like this travel bug to visit caches near the hometowns of the Challenger astronauts. Then I would like the bug to return to Massachusetts when it has finished its mission. If I can retrieve this travel bug when it is done, I will donate it to the Challenger Center at Christa McAuliffe's alma mater, Framingham State College.

Here is a list of the astronauts:
Commander Dick Scobee - Cle Elum, Washington DONE
Pilot Mike Smith - Beaufort, North Carolina DONE
Mission Specialist Judy Resnik - Akron, Ohio
Mission Specialist Ellison Onizuka - Kealakekua, Kona, Hawaii
Mission Specialist Ron McNair - Lake City, South Carolina
Payload Specialist Greg Jarvis - Detroit, Michigan DONE
Payload Specialist Christa McAuliffe - Framingham, Massachusetts DONE

Thanks, and please post photos!

About This Item

Challenger Memorial Travel Bug

This is a keychain depicting a NASA astronaut in a Shuttle-era space suit. It's been sitting at my desk at work in Framingham, Mass. (Christa McAuliffe's hometown) for years. Now it's time for him to explore and visiting the hometowns of the Challenger astonauts seems like a worthy expedition.

I still remember that day like yesterday, and is something I will never forget. I admire all who risk their lives for the exploration that benefits all of humanity.

I just happen to be going to Cle Elum next weekend for an event. If I do not get it into a cache I will get it into the hands of a local there.

Grabbed this bug after landing in Detroit for a business trip. I can help it get at least close to mission commander Dick Scobee's home in Cle Elum Washington if not place it there myself. Thanks for Sharing and good luck in completing your mission.
