There is music all around us. Some of it is pleasing, some invigorating, some distressingly grating. I propose that music is sound for which we willingly stop and listen and appreciate for its own sake. It could be a Mozart symphony, a popular song, the warbling of a bird in your backyard, the rustling leaves of the quaking aspens, the voice of your loved one speaking and laughing. Give thanks in your own manner that your life is enhanced by the presence of this music.
In contrast, sounds that you tune out, such as your morning clock alarm, the random array of urban traffic, or even tunes you employ merely for background noise while you do other things, are not music to you, at least not right then and there. Sounds that alert you for other purposes or that trigger your survival instinct, such as a gunshot or an automobile crash, are not really music at that time.
If you drop a stack of dishes in your kitchen and they crash on the ground and break into pieces, then you probably won't consider that sound to be music--though your guests might. The sound of a hailstorm might not be music to you when you're in the middle of it, but it might be when you're safely inside looking out at it.
What have your heard lately? Try to place this trackable near where you've encountered some good music as you define it, and let us all know in your log what that sound is that made you stop what you're doing and listen to it attentively.
