Current Goal

The John Deere travel bug started its journey in Middlebury, VT and would like to travel to a cache within 25 miles of Grand Detour, IL. He likes the company of other tractors so if you have any other small tractors to accompany John Deere, feel free to attach them.

The bug has made it close to its destination and is now ready to return to Vermont. Thanks for all the tractor "friends"! We can't wait to see the bug when it returns.

About This Item

John Deere

John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont in 1804 and lived most of his early years in the town of Middlebury, VT. In Middlebury, John Deere apprenticed as a blacksmith and learned the blacksmithing trade. In 1837, John Deere packed up and moved to Grand Detour, IL. While employed as a blacksmith in Grand Detour, John Deere experimented with a broken saw blade that eventually became his first plow. The plow soon became a high demand item and was the start of the company that is today famous for the green-as-grass John Deere tractors.

Wow, this TB has turned into a whole fleet of tractors! I've got one I'd like to add but I'm afraid it would make the TB too big for anything but full size ammo can caches. Maybe I can find something smaller to add to the fleet.

Btw, just a note from a country boy who once worked at John Deere Plow and Planter in Moline Il.

John Deere didn't invent the plow but he did invent the Self-Cleaning Plow. This may not seem like much of a distinction but it really was the revolution in farming equipment which brought farming into the modern era. The self-cleaning plow is without a doubt, one of the most important inventions in world history. Without it, we'd never be able to grow enough food to feed the world's population.

We'll move these fellers along soon.

Found this herd of tractors and I am not sure if they ever got close enough to it's goal. I am headed back to New Hampshire in a few weeks, so if you want these guys to head to VT, let me know, otherwise I will leave them in here in OK.
