A replica gold plated Australia proof penny with a travel bug dog tag attached.

 

The Melbourne and Perth Mint’s had developed a large export market for its early commercial proof pennies (1955 to 1963). Collectors in the United States were the Mint’s prime target.

The 1955 Melbourne Mint Proof Penny was one of 1200 pieces minted.

From 1953 to 1955, 20000 pieces were minted with the exception of this extremely rare 1955 Proof Penny.

This makes this coin the rarest of all proof pennies minted post The Korean War.
