Already in the Middle Ages the "black cat" was a symbol for the carnival and was therefore already firmly established in the back of many carnivalists' minds. One evening in 1938, eleven Nieheim fools moved to Himmighausen in the old German restaurant "Zum Kukuk". The innkeeper at the time, Fritz Kukuk, of course, insisted on treating our Nieheim fools with his finest drinks. Fritz Kukuk got a little schnapps for every fool, the "black cat". Even if the fools were not yet aware of it at this point, the heraldic animal of the NKG Olle meh was born at that moment. The reason for this was a small black cat that was attached to each liquor bottle. The fools carefully removed these cats and Fritz Kukuk brought in a matching sausage ribbon. So our eleven fools could wear these little cats as a medal. Such joy had to be honored, of course, and on the same evening a poem should be produced that expresses the joy about this "black cat medal". What came out of these considerations is still in the head and mouth of every carnival friend from Nieheim:
“Because unity at every turn doesn't hurt at all; and if de Katt in't Fuer, who makes Olle meh! "
After that evening, of course, from a carnival point of view, nothing worked without the new heraldic animal. In 1960 there was the first official Carnival Monday parade and from the beginning we thought about how to present our heraldic animal as impressively as possible. Our black cat had its first appearance in the Nieheim Rose Monday parade in 1964!
