I'm a shark, so I would really like to visit caches near the ocean, beach, estuary or even aquariums.
Sharks have been on Earth for around 400 million years.
They have evolved to become the top predator in our oceans.
Without them, our marine ecosystems would collapse.
So often, the ‘smile’ of a dolphin, a fluffy seal pup or whale dragging behind a fishing boat dominate our attention in the world of marine conservation.
So rarely, does anyone stand up for those animals that aren’t smiling, cute or fluffy. But who desperately need our help.
Worldwide, humans have learned to fear sharks. These fears are predominantly unjustified & are based on false information, yet they persist through generations.
The Australian Government in particular the Western Australian Government has taken this 'fear' to a new level & devised a 'plan' that they say will address public safety & help mitigate the risk sharks pose to water users.
Their plan includes setting baited drum lines to catch large sharks along the shores of heavily used beaches & hiring professional shark hunters to patrol these areas & kill the sharks.
The scientific evidence is simply not there to prove these measures reduce shark attacks.
Furthermore, drum lines catch sharks indiscriminately. With many of Australia's shark species, like the Great White shark, in decline & threatened, these measures will simply ensure that they will be pushed even further to the brink.
You don't need to be a 'Greenie', 'Conservationist' or 'Extremist' to see this is wrong.
If you oppose the government's policy to bait & kill sharks, there are numerous way you can be heard.
