Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the leaders of the Corps of Discovery, need your help on their cross-country expedition to visit all of the fifty states, meeting indigenous geocaching peoples wherever they may be within the United States. The Corps has completed its first goal of finding portage to the Pacific Ocean and reporting back to President Jefferson (2002-2009). The Corps' goal now is to travel throughout the United States to meet and have councils with various geocaching "nations". The explorers are accompanied by their good luck charm, Sacagawea (at least in numismatic form) as well as Seaman, Captain Lewis' dog. DO NOT take this bug and/or its cache unless you are going to move the Corps of Discovery to a new location in a new state! Maps of the Corps' travels with the history of their original expedition are enclosed with the Captains for your edification.
Please note the following:
1. Please DO NOT put the Corps in an extremely difficult or remote location! The object is to get them to all fifty states and back, not to strand them. DO NOT put the Corps in a location that is likely to be plundered by muggles or confiscated by overzealous park rangers. We don't want to lose the Corps to hostile action.
2. DO have fun with these intrepid explorers as we celebrate the bicentennial (and beyond) of their historic journey.
3. DO take pictures recording the travels of the Corps of Discovery as they again explore the Louisiana Territory (and the rest of the USA) including pictures with indigenous people they encounter as well as recruits that enlist in the Corps' mission. In particular, pictures of the duo at any of their old stomping grounds would be ideal.

I found the Corps just as they were finishing breakfast and enjoyed a last cup of coffee with them. After a few niceties I inquired about guiding them in a northwest direction to a well traveled trail that leads all the way north to the Illinois tribe. Capt Lewis was apprehensive about hiring a blue feathered guide who appeared to be on deaths door, but Capt Clark reminded him that it was Lewis's own premonitions about dying in the area of the last camp that caused them to hire a guide that took them almost to the Gulf of Mexico instead of a preferred direction. After a little haggling, an arrangement was made and camp was broke. Capt Clark was not pleased that the expedition began moving westward and then northeast and Capt Clark wanted to know why the guide kept stopping to explore small caches instead of just stopping at one large one, but once the expedition turned northwest they settled down and enjoyed the ride. Other than a thunderstorm that kept following the group the proceedings were uneventful. However once they approached the town of Holmesville, the Captains inquired about camping near the government offices before the storm caught them. Upon being assured we could make the planned camp before the storm arrived they relented and the trek continued. Towards late evening the camp was made at the crest of Bluff Springs Hill. The captains were assured that the nearby natives were friendly, they were on high ground in case the approaching storm was a deluge and plenty of safe drinking water was available at the bottom of the hill. The well used trail they were promised was only a mile to the west and they should be able to find a guide soon to take them northward to Michigan or Wisconsin and from there they should be able to find a well used trail westward to Idaho.
