To travel anywhere of your choice to share and highlight the lovely sandy beaches of my birth town at Cleethorpes. Thank you for your help and have a good journey.
Cleethorpes is twinned with Konigswinter in Germany.
It is situated on the East Coast of England and was my home town during childhood. It has some lovely stretches of golden sand and views of the Humber estuary. It is always busy during summer weekends with visitors from Yorkshire, Nottingham & Derbyshire. With Grimsby docks close by it has always been famous for excellent fish & chips. In 1978, it lost a major attraction due to a heavy storm - one of the largest open air swimming pools in Europe, a place I will never forget and learned to swim. My father (a local politician) fought hard to maintain the status of Cleethorpes as a resort and facilitated the building of a new Leisure Centre as a replacement. It was opened in 1983 by my father and ex Olympic Swimmer Duncan Goodhew. I have very much enjoyed my times on the beach at Cleethorpes and this travel bug is a small way of sharing this with others.
I also attach a photo of some special cufflinks with the town emblems for Cleethorpes and Konigswinter which belogned to my father. He spent many years building the relationship with our friends in Germany and the spirit of this lives on and thrives today.
