Current Goal

Currently, this TB has a two-part mission. In either order, it would like to visit the Temple of the Jaguar cache by spiderwomantoo, in California, AND it wants to visit the ancient ruins of Chichen-Itza. The sacred city of the Itza, called Chichen-Itza (chee-chehn eet-sah) in Maya, is located 75 miles east of Merida, the Capital of the State of Yucatan, Mexico.

About This Item

The Beast!

The Jaguar was the Master of Animals in Central American mythology and a deity figure in many ancient and greatest cultures like Maya, Olmec, Azteca. The majesty of the Jaguar is constantly seen in many art pieces, which captures the spirituality and intellect of a man and the ferocity and strength of the jaguar. The Mayan word for Jaguar is IX (pronounced eesh). Mayan ancestors believe in the Jaguar’s Wisdom. The principal deity, for Mayas, was an Earth god who took the form of the Jaguar, since his power was not limited to terrestrial matters, this deity supposedly had dominance over all things terrestrial and celestial. The Jaguar was chosen because they believed it was the most powerful, intelligent and feared animal. According to Mayan beliefs, the hidden sun was said to be Jaguar, whose spotted skin symbolized the stars glittering in the night sky. Therefore, it was called the "Jaguar Sun."
