Current Goal

This trackable has the modest goal to circulate more than five years and to be moved by at least 25 cachers.  That is a rate of five drops per year for five years.  As of 26-Jan-20 it had been active for 4.6 years and had been moved by 28 cachers.  How far can it get?  Keep it moving!

Please drop it in rural OR Premium Member Only caches.  Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security.  Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items.  Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.  No permission is needed to leave the U.S.

Trackable photos are appreciated and will be re-posted here.

About This Item

Pirangi_cashew_tree

A wooden ring to a tree ring to a tree—is that a logical sequence?   Whether it is or not, this is one of a series of wooden rings named for famous or unusual trees.

Pirangi Cashew Tree is located near Natal, Brazil.  Upon approaching it one might think you’re entering a forest.  But despite covering an area larger than a football field, it is in fact a single tree.  It was planted in 1888 by a fisherman who was unaware that the tree had a genetic mutation that would allow it to eventually take over so much space. When the branches of the Pirangi tree touch the ground, it atypically puts down roots and keeps growing.  The Pirangi is now 80 times larger than an average cashew tree.  The size has caused a controversy since its roots started taking over a nearby highway, only allowing one car to pass at a time.  Specialists fear it might die if trimmed.
