Visiting the Leaning Tower of Britten!!

  • Visiting the Leaning Tower of Britten!! The Leaning Tower of Britten is a leaning water tower which serves as a roadside attraction and decorative item along historic U.S. Route 66 in Groom, Texas. Sometimes called the Leaning Tower of Texas, the tower was originally a functioning water tower which was slated for demolition until Ralph Britten purchased and moved it to serve as an advertisement for his truck stop and tourist information center. The now boarded truck stop can still be seen, set back off the road behind the tower.

Visiting VW Bug Ranch!!

  • Visiting the VW Bug Ranch!! The history of this site, located in the old Route 66 town of Conway, is unclear; however, its premise is exactly the same as the Cadillac Ranch original: the cars are partially buried at approximately 45-degree angles, their noses facing downward into the dirt, left to disintegrate over time, with visitor participation encouraged (or at least not actively discouraged) in the form of spray painting. Also, there's an abandoned gas station with a sign and a couple of other outbuildings!!

Visiting Cadillac Ranch!!

  • Bike Visiting Cadillac Ranch!! The Cadillac Ranch is a public art installation and sculpture on Route 66, just west of Amarillo, Texas. The site features ten half-buried Cadillacs, nose-first in the ground that are colorfully sprayed with graffiti today. It was invented and built in 1973 by a group of art-hippies imported from San Francisco. They called themselves The Ant Farm, and their silent partner was Amarillo billionaire Stanley Marsh 3. They face west in a line, from the 1949 Club Sedan to the 1963 Sedan de Ville.
