Current Goal

To travel the length and breadth of the Roman empire, visiting as many Roman sites as possible.

About This Item

The object attached to this bug is a piece of Roman tile used as an element in a floor mosaic. These fragments are called tesserae (sing. tessera). This particular one was found in a molehill at Blansby Park, near Pickering, N. Yorkshire, where a community archaeological and ecological project has recently been launched. Several hundred tesserae have been found in the surface soil here, indicating that the mosaic has probably been destroyed by ploughing.

Please take this travel bug to caches linked to Roman towns and archaeological sites all over the Roman Empire. As you can see from the map, this covered all of western Europe, the Balkans, Turkey, The Levant and the North African seaboard. Plenty of scope then ! – But please try to maintain the Roman link.

Tessa took a quick trip to Vegas to check out Caesar's Palace. Lots of tiles there, but I didn't know the goal at the time, so didn't take any photos of that.

  • At Caesar's Palace Las Vegas Nevada Here I am with my GPS at Caesar's Toga Party, Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada. And what a party it was too!!! Tessa was in my pocket, since I wasn't wearing a toga, but then Caesar wasn't either, was he?

I traded a Hip Joint TB for this one this afternoon, from a Rece car cache. Not exactly "Roman", but I guess the Roman Chariots were race car fore-runners? I am from WA State, but am helping elderly parents here in OK. Funny, this TB has recently made the rounds in my area of SE WA. I'll see where I can place it to help it out. I am going on a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, and will try to place it in a cache there, so perhaps a world traveler Geocacher will help it along the way.
BTW, it is again missing it's goal page, so I will see what I can do to attach something before I drop it.

I will move this bug along with its piece of historic Romnan Tile and hopefully will get it going in the direction to get it to the old Roman Embire.
