About This Item

The object attached to this bug is a piece of Roman tile used as an element in a floor mosaic. These fragments are called tesserae (sing. tessera). This particular one was found in a molehill at Blansby Park, near Pickering, N. Yorkshire, where a community archaeological and ecological project has recently been launched. Several hundred tesserae have been found in the surface soil here, indicating that the mosaic has probably been destroyed by ploughing.

Please take this travel bug to caches linked to Roman towns and archaeological sites all over the Roman Empire. As you can see from the map, this covered all of western Europe, the Balkans, Turkey, The Levant and the North African seaboard. Plenty of scope then ! – But please try to maintain the Roman link.

Tessa is hanging out in a travel bug cafe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The cafe/store sells travel books and travel accessories. I'm hoping a geocacher planning a trip overseas will check out the TB box and get Tessa back home. "Life is Good!"

Well Enabler cleaned Tessa up and printed it a new bug/info sheet. We will get it to a hotel soon and perhaps someone can get it to the east coast and then on to the Roman Empire. "Life is Good!"

We grabbed this travel bug from the cache that was placed by the Ephrata Police Department near Moses Lake. We brought it to Wyoming and will be placing it tonight. My sister accidentally logged it under her name while helping us since this is our first travel bug. Sorry for the confusion.
