A Geocaching Travel Bug Success Story
Our Travel Bug, Tyson, started his journey on September 26, 2003 near our home in Chandler, Az. He was sent on the road with the goal of “Just have fun with Tyson and treat him well”. When he saw much of the world and was exhausted, his wish was to come home to Chander, AZ. Mission accomplished, but only by sheer coincidence.
Tyson traveled a total of 31,957 miles and just short of 6 years before we retrieved him! As huge as the odds are against it, he returned to a place in Arizona that we planned a recent camping trip. After being placed in the “Old Mother Hubbard” cache in Stafford, AZ in May of 2009, we were convinced that he would not be in that cache by the time we went camping in early August. Imagine our surprise when we opened the cache and caught a glimpse of Tyson.
In the past, we have been so disappointed by TBs that have gone missing for one reason or another. We were amazed that this little guy had such a journey. After leaving Arizona, he visited Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, Idaho, Florida, Alabama, Utah, Washington, Nevada, Mississippi, MEXICO, British Columbia, CANADA, California, UNITED KINGDOM, IRELAND, Indiana, ANTILLES Islands, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
He looks a little worse for wear, but he is in one piece.
Thanks to everyone that took care of this TB and took such great photos.
Photo #1 is how he began his journey.
Photo #2 is how he looks now.
Photos #3 and #4 are two of the best photos that were taken on Tyson’s journey.
