Become a Circuit Design Engineer and help create a Connected World!

By connecting engineers, makers, educators and inventors to powerful ideas and the latest technologies, the element14 Community helps you to create solutions to everyday problems. We help you to make the extraordinary from the ordinary.

Now it is your turn! We’re creating a virtual circuit of geocaches.

We need your help to make connections between geocaches using the circuit board trackables, with them you will create virtual paths that bridge between geocaches and join together Scientific and Engineering landmarks of interest as shown on our “Atlas of Scientific Achievements”. These paths showing the journey of the trackables will become a virtual circuit connecting the world!

Now that you’re on your path to becoming an engineer create a free account and sign up for the Raspberry Pi 2 Kit Giveaway or follow blogs and articles on the element14 Community to help guide you into building your own GPS and geo-location aware project!

Current Goal

Its mission is to travel around the world to geocaches and make the public aware of scientifically important locations and eventually end up in Wiesbaden/Germany. As it is a limited editon of only 1500 element 14 trackables worldwide and trackables continually going missing, we will first up only release a copy of the original and travel with the original ourselves to scientifically important sites. In this case, should the copy go missing, we can then release the original and it can continue to connect the world!

As other geocachers find and move the Trackable, a dynamic map of its travels will be displayed.  Participants will be encouraged to find geocaches near locations of scientific significance including but not limited to:

  • Government research centers
  • Historical sites
  • Notable museums
  • Universities
  • Hospitals
  • Natural parks
  • Locations of personal significance to the participant: classrooms, maker labs, etc.

Anyone finding an element14 Trackable is encouraged to take a selfie with it to share on the Community and social media using #ConnectedWorld. The Atlas of Scientific Achievement is open to everyone to explore and to add more places of scientific significance.

“Our hope is to create a robust map of scientific achievements throughout history and across the globe,” Kibbey said. “We’re connecting people to physical locations of scientific importance and hoping they share and discover the science all around them.”
