Current Goal

ICE Beetle has traveled from USA to Australia to attend XII International Congress of Entomology in Brisbane, August 2004. He would like to roam around Oz for a bit and then head home and travel to caches near the sites of upcoming meetings of the Entomological Society of America arriving around the time of the meeting. San Diego, Dec. 2007, Reno. Nov. 2008. And perhaps the next International Congress of Entomology, Durban, South Africa, July 2008

About This Item

ICE Beetle

ICE Beetle began his travels at Lincoln, Nebraska USA. He has a little protective traveling case and He will be happy to come out for a visit especially if there's a camera around. He's really a very friendly and gentle creature If you remove him from his case please return him to it and tape it shut before you send him on his way. Happy travels little beetle. I hope to see you at a future ESA meeting back in the states.

After many adventures and a trip around the world this TB is now retired. The pretty beetle fell victim to a forest fire but the tag has survived and it's in my trackables collection.  However, I am making it available for discovery.  If you see me at an event I probably have it with me. I'm not logging it into events so its milage will stay at the 32715.6 miles it actually traveled.

In three years of travel ICE Beetle went around the world (Nebraska to Australia to the UK to California, then through western USA to Florida and finally in the fourth year, after the tag was recovered from the burned out cache, came home to Nebraska)

He was logged into 64 caches, 20 in Australia, 23 in the UK and 22 in the USA.

Visiting the cache to record final total milage. The tag is being retired.

Retrieve It from a Cache 5/22/2008 NevaP retrieved it from Horseshoechamps own Florida   Visit Log

Thanks to Horseshoechamps the TB - the tag at least - has come home to Nebraska. It joins its companion, ICE Mantid who started traveling at the same time in August 2004 and recently also came home after being lost for over a year in an archived cache. I think they have earned an honorable retirement.

  • Ice Mantid and the tags. ICE Mantid, looking pretty good after four years travel, poses atop her traveling case with her tag and the charred tag from Ice Beetle.
