PLEASE KEEP THIS GEOCOIN MOVING!! It doesn't much care where it goes, as long as it gets there OK, sure, a stop in Baker would be cool... or hot We own this, but have sent it out into the world so that others can enjoy it, collect its icon and then pass it on to another cache. If you can post a photo of it on its travels, that would be great Discoveries are always welcome. Thanks to all who help our geocoins and TBs!
Baker, California, is a small blot on the map in the eastern Mojave Desert, along I-15, between Barstow, CA and Las Vegas, NV. It bills itself as "The Gateway to Death Valley", although the Valley is about a two-hour drive to the north. It was founded as a stop along the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad, and has seen its fair share of ups and downs; in fact, far more downs than ups. It mainly serves as a place to stop for gas and food on the long drive between "Lost Wages" and Los Angeles; geocachers can pick up a dozen or so caches, as well. One of those caches is a virtual, at the site of the subject of this geocoin. We've done the virtual; we logged it on July 26th, 2007, with our older grandson, Justin. At 9:15 pm, it was 101º After several changes of ownership and various "adventures", the family of Willis Herron, who paid to have the thing built back in 1991, acquired it and paid to have it refurbished, so that it can continue to remind us that some *do* like it hot, especially when it's a dry heat
