I maintain records on my trackables. For a US-based trackable, this one is unusual for its longevity and movement. In the six-year period, 2010-19, the owner released a total of 3,793 trackables in the United States (96%) and Europe (4%). This trackable is one of the 5% of the total that circulated for at least 5 years and had been moved at least 25 times. That is a target rate of at least five drops per year for five years, or a drop every 73 days. The average drop rate of my trackables in the US is 124 days, in Europe it is 71 days. As of 23-Dec-24 this trackable had survived for 7.7 years and had been moved by 34 cachers, for an average drop every 82 days, or 4.4 drops per year.
Please keep it moving, then drop it in a safe place!
No permission is needed to leave the U.S. While in the U.S., please drop it at an event, in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban, non-premium cache. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean and dry, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.
I have already released series of art-themed travel bugs based on works I have seen in person. I will continue the series mostly including works I simply admire. There will also be famous works or works by famous artists that I otherwise do not particularly care for, but they are….well,..famous. My disdain extends to most Modern Art and a good amount from the Pop Art movement. However, I do have a special fondness for Art Deco.
Art Deco or just Deco, is an influential visual arts design style that first appeared in France just before World War I and began flourishing internationally in the 1920s, 1930s and early 1940s before its popularity waned after World War II. It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts held in Paris in 1925. It is an eclectic style that combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colors, bold geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation.
Deco emerged from the interwar period when rapid industrialization was transforming the culture of the western world. One of its major attributes is an embrace of technology. This distinguishes Deco from the organic motifs favored by its predecessor Art Nouveau. It was a style that usually (but not always) ran more to symmetry rather than asymmetry, and to the rectilinear (but not always) rather than the curvilinear. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress. If you are a fan of the Golden Age of Movies (30s, 40s and very early 50s), you have seen a lot of Art Deco interiors. The modern cineplexes often try to incorporate some of the former style today, just look at the light fixtures above above the aisles.
As the travel bugs is this series will show, the Art Deco style manifested itself in all expressions of the culture of the period; furniture, interior design, home décor, luxury items, fashion, architecture, industrial design and the arts (jewelry, posters, pottery, sculpture, painting).

Welcome to Texas!!!! 👁 Eye see you Dallas!!
The piece is called simply “Eye”, and was created by artist Tony Tasset in 2007. It stands 30 feet tall, and is modeled after Tasset’s own baby blues. This enormous, hyper-realistic eyeball with streaky red veins and all can be found outside of the swanky Joule Hotel in Downtown Dallas off Main Street.

Had a great Thanksgiving last week with family and I hope all that celebrate did too! One last cache to highlight in Arizona before going back to Dallas, Texas. Found this cache on a mountain trail in a box, the Millennium Falcon. A true find for any Star Wars fan. Ironically, I dropped a Captain Kirk trackable. 🖖🏽
May the force be with you…

Stopping by an old warehouse in downtown Phoenix where the entire surface is covered with highway signs. Signs like “Do Not Pass,” “Reduced Speed Ahead,” and “Keep Right Except to Pass.” There are more than 500 of them. You will notice that integrated into the signs are the numbers 1912 and 2012, denoting Arizona’s 100 years of statehood. 🚸⚠️

Show Low was named by the turn of card. Two early settlers, Corydon Cooley and Marion Clark, decided there wasn’t enough room for both of them in the community and agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to get the 100,000 acre ranch and who was to move on. The card game went on through the night and according to the story, Clark said to Cooley, “If you can show low, you win.” Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and replied, “show low it is.” ♣️♣️

Snowflake’s history began in 1878 when five families, led by William J. Flake, settled in the Silver Creek Valley. Flake and the other families were sent by the Mormon Church President Brigham Young to establish religious colonies throughout the southwest. In September, 1878, Flake met with Mormon Apostle Erastus Snow, who was dedicating the new Mormon colonies. The two men named the new community by combining their last names, Snow and Flake. ❄️
