Please drop this item in rural OR Premium Member Only caches. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the travel bug anywhere you wish. No permission is needed to leave the U.S.
Travel bug photos are appreciated. I will re-post them here, where they can be seen by other cachers.
I have already released several groups of art-themed travel bugs. While I have seen numerous works by British artists in my travels, I find they are underrepresented among my TBs. This is one in a small series to correct that oversight.
John Atkinson Grimshaw (1836-1893) was an English Victorian-era artist, a "remarkable and imaginative painter" known for his city night-scenes and landscapes. He was born in Leeds. In 1856 he married his cousin Frances Hubbard. In 1861, at the age of 24, to the dismay of his parents, he left his job as a clerk for the Great Northern Railway to become a painter. Under the patronage of the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society, in 1862 Grimshaw first exhibited paintings of birds, fruit and blossoms. He became successful in the 1870s and rented a second home in Scarborough, which became a favorite subject.
True to the Pre-Raphaelite style, he created landscapes of accurate color and lighting, vivid detail and realism, often typifying seasons or a type of weather. Moonlit views of city and suburban streets and of the docks in London, Leeds, Liverpool and Glasgow also figured largely in his art. His careful painting and his skill in lighting effects meant that he captured both the appearance and the mood of a scene in minute detail. His paintings of dampened gas-lit streets and misty waterfronts conveyed an eerie warmth as well as alienation in the urban scene. The image on this travel bug is one such example.
