I'm a pretty cool puffin my owner picked up during her visit to Iceland in May 2018. She was planning to release me to travel the geocaching world alone, but I'm so cute, she just had to keep me!
There are several puffin species, and I'm an Atlantic puffin. Us Atlantic puffins spend most of our time out at sea, only returning to land during the spring and summer to breed and nest in colonies. Iceland is one of those colonies, and approx 60% of the worlds Atlantic puffins have their breeding home on Iceland. So I'm part of the cool Icelandic Puffin Crowd.
We like to build our nests in rocky steep cliffs, so we're pretty badass! Another sign of our badassery is that we can dive up to 60 meters down in the sea, and we are super fast in both sea and air. In the air, I can flap my wings 400 times per minute and go as fast as 80 km/h! Booya!!
Also, have you seen my beak? My beak is so awesome and colourful, and humans hike great distances just to meet us and and take photos of us.
For some reason we're called Sea Parrots. I've never met a parrot, but I doubt they're as awesome as a puffin! They should call the parrots Jungle Puffins instead! Silly humans.
