Brownie would like to explore different bear habitats in North America. Bears typically live in forested areas, but can also be found in tundra, mountains and even on arctic ice. Some special habitats the bear would like to visit include:
- Yellowstone National Park
- Great Smokey Mountains National Park
- Tongas National Forest in Alaska
- Alligator River national wildlife refuge in North Carolina
- Brooks Falls in Katmai national park (great spot for grizzlies)
- Hudson Bay (Churchill), Manitoba (to see polar bears!)
Any other special bear locations would be welcome as well. Please share your bear stories and adventures.
Brownie is a Black Bear. If he is a black bear, why is he brown you might ask? Well, the american black bear, Ursus americanus, is not always black. They can be black, brown, cinnamon and even white, as the Wild Kratts discovered in the episode, Spirit Bear. Brownie here was discovered by the Wild Kratts in the Pecos Wilderness outside of Santa Fe, NM. The Wild Kratts decided to tag Brownie with a travel-bug tag to see where this bear wanders. He was released at their Super Secret Santa Fe Laboratory in the Fall of 2016, just in time for the winter hibernation. The Wild Kratts are especially interested to see where this bear travels.
