Current Goal

This trackable has the modest goal to circulate more than five years and to be moved by at least 25 cachers.  That is a rate of five drops per year for five years, or a drop every 73 days.  As of 24-May-20 it had survived for 3.8 years and had been moved by 13 cachers, for a release every 106 days, on average.

No permission is needed to leave the U.S.  While in the U.S., please drop it in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security.  Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items.  Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.

Trackable photos are appreciated and will be re-posted here.

About This Item

This “Bear” series of travel bugs are each named for fictional bears of children’s literature, comic books, cartoons, mythology and animated shorts or features.

Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear (also spelled Brer Fox and Brer Bear) are fictional characters from the Uncle Remus folktales adapted and compiled by Joel Chandler Harris.  Both are shown in the figure.  Br’er is a contraction of Brother.  Uncle Remus is a collection of animal stories, songs, and oral folklore, collected from Southern United States African-Americans.  Many of the stories have a moral, much like those of Aesop's Fables. Uncle Remus is a kindly old former slave who serves as a storytelling device, passing on the folktales to children gathered around him.  My mother read the book to me and my sisters.  In the animated sequences of the 1946 Walt Disney-produced film Song of the South, Brer Fox is the primary villain (depicted as comically devious and cruel), while Brer Bear is his dim-witted sidekick.  The two are constantly hunting, but getting outwitted by, Br’er Rabbit.  Br’er Bear is usually carrying a club with which he is going to knock someone’s head off.  The characters also appeared in comic strip form.
